The Hoff Needs Help. Lots Of It.

Much as I would want to make fun of David Hasselhoff today, I won’t, because the above video showing him shirtless and drunk and trying his darnedest best to get some solid food into his stomach is more than enough to illustrate how sad this whole thing is. The Insider got the exclusive video, which is said to have been made at The Hoff’s behest, as well as a statement where he says:
“I am a recovering alcoholic. Despite that I have been going through a painful divorce and I have recently been separated from my children due to my work, I have been successfully dealing with my issue. Unfortunately, one evening I did have a brief relapse, but part of recovery is relapse.
“Because of my honest and positive relationship with my daughters who were concerned for my well being there was a tape made that night to show me what I was like. I have seen the tape. I have learned from it and I am back on my game. I thank God for the love and concern from my daughters. The tape was never meant to become public, but got into the hands of individuals who are not worthy of mentioning, who maliciously released the tape for their own self purpose. I hope that someone else will learn from the tape, as I have.”
Honestly, I think the decision by The Hoff to involve his kids in his efforts to rid himself of the habit is both smart and stupid. Smart, because he was able to see for himself what a mess he is when he’s smashed, and stupid, because videotaping their own father making a fool of himself is a pretty traumatic experience for them. Listening to one of his daughters beg him to stop drinking is plain heartbreaking. The Hoff, clearly, needs a lot of help.
