In a world where Juicy Couture is as common to the fashion world as Gatorade is to sports, it's hard to fathom that the company has only been around since 1994. Pamela Skaist-Levy and Gela Nash founded the company as Travis Jeans, Inc in 1994 out of Pacoima, CA. Travis Jeans, Inc was initially a line of maternity jeans that was named after Gela's Son. When the women decided to expand on their initial concept, they created Juicy Couture as a subsidiary of Travis Jeans, Inc.

The concept was simple: comfortable and stylish women's sportswear and sweats. The two founders loved nothing more than shopping and fashion, but clearly sensed that there was a void in the market of adorable and hip but also comfortable women's cozy wear. They also figured that if they made stuff that they loved/wanted/needed, other women probably would feel the same way. And boy, were they right. This was a west coast company, and there wasn't a single lady in California who did not rock her Juicy track suit - sold separately as a zip hoodie and sweats, of course. The growth of the company became apparent when Juicy Couture made its east coast debut in 1999 in New York City. Gela's husband, John Taylor (bassist from Duran Duran) and Simon Le Bon played at the party launching the east coast welcome.

So, Juicy Couture continued to grow in popularity and then the men and kids wanted a piece of the action. In 2002, the girls launched collections for men and children. In 2003, Liz Claiborne Inc bought Travis Jeans Inc (and all of its assets including Juicy Couture, for $53 million and a percentage of the future earnings. G&P remained co-presidents of the company, and continued to be the main creative voices of Juicy Couture. After Liz Claiborne Inc took over ownership of the company, they immediately continued expanding the line and in 2004 launched a line of bathing suits, accessories, shoes, handbags and jewelry. The Juicy Couture handbags are 100% drool-worthy. The next year the company saw even more growth when the Juicy name was licensed to T-Mobile for a designer version of the Sidekick and to Movado for some Juicy-licous watches. It was also in this time period that the first free-standing Juicy Couture boutiques opened around the United States. And in 2006, Tawil Associates in partnership with Juicy launched a line of infant wear. Now the entire family can be head-to-toe Juicy - seriously, I can't think of anything more fabulous.
