A week after his
scathing voice mail
to his and
Kim Basinger’s
daughter
Ireland
made headlines, a somber
Alec Baldwin
appeared on “The View” earlier today and basically apologized for what happened.
In the pre-taped segment, Baldwin said that was the only time he ever talked to his daughter that way, that he really intended to say those words to someone else, obviously referring to his ex-wife. He also expressed “deep and endless frustration” in not being able to properly communicate with Ireland, then went on to yak about parental alienation and how the complicated custody battle between him and his ex-wife is frustrating him.
Now that was some apology. He practically blamed everybody, from his wife to the tabloid media to the courts to, according to
Page Six
,
Dora the Explorer
, but I never heard him blame himself. I understand his predicament, but that still doesn’t excuse him calling the kid a “rude, thoughtless little pig”, no matter how rude or thoughtless the kid actually is. “Rude and thoughtless” would have sufficed. Call your own kid a pig and you might as well slap her across the face.

I was appaled as his lack of remorse as well. He may still be in shock from all the media uproar, but why was it all about what people have done to him? A good parent would have apologized about what his phone call has cost his young daughter. It was obvious by his defeated body language that he is devasted. But the grief was for himself, not for what he did to his daughter.

I agree. There is no excuse to call your child names ever. Who is the adult here? It seems to me that he is more concerned with his image than with the welfare of his child.
