Banning Emos

emotar.jpg

For anyone who is emo reading this- hide your black nail polish, the Bolsheviks are coming for you.

The Russian government is on their way to pass laws to regulate emo websites and ban emo/gothic dress style in schools and government buildings. You know what? This is great. They have a good reason to do that: being emo encourages depression and suicide.

Hell yes it does. Some idiotic musician for an emo band said “expressing psychological emotions is not forbidden by law”. It’s def not- but when people start cutting themselves, start wishing death upon themselves and other people, something is wrong.

I agree with this law. Being emo/gothic only promotes hate and sadness which promotes death which promotes anti-depressant pills and then mental instabilities. It’s like a chain reaction. The music, the lyrics, the message behind it all is so negative. To inflict pain upon yourself is pathetic.

If you’re sad, just work out- it releases endorphins and you’ll feel happy again. Why listen to sad music over and over again? Hell I’ve been through that emo phase, and it wasn’t enjoyable.

Don’t turn to the dark side- it could kill you.

That was a rubbish little essay and filled to the brim with unsupported accusations and nonsense.

You like facism? Really? Then please go to Russia and stay there, as a UK citizen I am (especially today) very glad to live in a free country where I am not prosecuted for such minor problems as clothing which in this case isn’t even a problem, it’s a facists problem. They are trying to irradicate the most eccentric of styles just because they are eccentric. Emo does not promote suicide or depression, it’s about freedom of expressing your feelings.

There are people self-harming from all walks of life and in many ways. Every year thousands of people die from smoking… it’s self-inflicted, people die from overeating, though a more tricky problem it is still self-inflicted. It is harm to the body therefore it is self-harm. Celebs smoke, booze and under-eat all the time, they infleunce more teens than “emo” ever will, will celebs be banned?

If the Russian government really think they’re doing the right thing they need to have a serious reality check. Emos are a minority subculture, most emos have their own idea about what emo means and I can assure you that very few of them believe emo is about depression and suicide and that depression and suicide are good.

Come on, get real or go join the facists.

I totaly agree with the article….
Honestly, I would put them all in jail if I could…. all they want is attention, what a better way of getting attention that getting sent to jail… ;)
I mean, they scare litle children… their look is demonic and they stand for anger, depression and sadness. I think our society has enough of that already… we don’t need anymore of it in our faces everyday.
You want to be all dressed in black with chains and other awful accesories… then stay home, you’ll do us all a favor.
In regards to Russia trying to bann it from government buildings, I agree, but I do not know how successful they could be at reinforcing it. But when it comes to banning it from schools, I completly believe they should reinforce it to the max. Schools are a place for learning and also a place for respect… heck, how could anyone ever learn having to look at that dark depression all day?

In my opinion, this article is ridiculous. That’s just like saying that preps should be outlawed because they promote being snobby and rude to people that aren’t just like you. People who aren’t emo occasionally wear the colors black and red together, right? Well, emos just happen to do it a bit more often. There are people that just happen to have black hair but aren’t emo, right? I don’t see you trying to ban THOSE people. And would this law go as far as to outlaw slasher movies or movies like Sweeney Todd (which is immensly popular in many different social types) just because it shows people murdering other people? Emo people have done nothing wrong. Not all of them believe that sadness and depression is ok, and of every one that does, there is a non emo person self mutilating or causing themself pain and misery. I find this article absolutely rediculous and just another form of communism.

  10. Stephanie Says:

leave them alone im one and say that they have their own way of expressing them selfves and stopping it in russia is nothing its going to continue to grow in the UK and US its griw ing so fast that i bet by 2009 about 40 to 50% of teens will be emo, scene or goth.
cause they arent all dressed in pink like you hateable preps!!!!!!!!!!

    Way to go Russia…
No i’m not communist but as a father of two i do care. My daughter has been following this trend for about 6 months now, being easy going I try to mind my own.Out of a partial interest and mostly boredom i started looking into this emo stuff tonight and after just about 4 hours or surfing I can say I plan to ban it from my house. I’ve been to sites that are put together by emo people and the members are emo and they all promote depression and suicide, I even read where a 14 year old girl was bragging about seeing a friend die in person… Desturbing
