Beyonce’s Golden Globes Are Nicer Than Jennifer Hudson’s
Awards season has begun, which means I’m all warm and snuggly inside, not to mention breathless with anticipation at the prospect of brutally skewering starlets’ fashion choices on the most exciting day of their young lives. Sigh. The Golden Globe nominations were announced this morning, and I’m thrilled to see the only movie I have loved before actually seeing in a theater, Dreamgirls, got tons of nominations. I will admit that it seems rather unfair that Beyonce was nominated for Best Actress, while Jennifer Hudson, by all accounts the star of the film, was nominated for Best Supporting Actress. I’ll wait to see the film before I judge. In other odd awards news, Sascha Baron Cohen was nominated for his role in Borat. This is the first time, I would assume, an actor was nominated for a performance that included handing a Southern belle a baggy filled with poo and being slapped in the face by the balls of an morbidly obese man. Other than that there were no real surprises — can Helen Mirren or Judi Dench act in something without getting nominated? The fast answer is no. Same goes for Clint Eastwood and directing. It gets tiresome after awhile. [Source]
