DJ AM Died Over Ex-Girlfriend & Drugs! Mandy and Travis Speak!

Many hearts are broken over the death of DJ AM. Born Adam Goldstein, he formerly was engaged to Nicole Richie and miraculously escaped a plane crash last year. His body was discovered by the New York Police Department at his apartment in NYC on Friday. According to NBC New York, “DJ AM had not been heard from for a few days, and one of his friends went to check on him, but got no response after knocking on his apartment door, law-enforcement sources said. The friend then called the police, who broke into the apartment and found the DJ’s body.” Prescription pill bottles and a pipe commonly used to smoke drugs (a crack pipe) were found at DJ AM’s apartment, according to reports. He was wearing sweatpants and no shirt and was pronounced dead on the scene when paramedics arrived. DJ AM’s recent breakup with his girlfriend, Hayley Wood, coupled with the post-traumatic stress from his September ‘08 plane crash may have triggered the former addict to use. AM was said to be “completely devastated” when Wood ended the relationship last week. The DJ was sober for nine years before being found in his NY apartment from an alleged overdose on Friday afternoon.  The 36 year old DJ had seemingly overcome his addiction to drugs and was even recently working on an MTV show to help young people get sober called Gone Too Far. On August 25th, in what would now be his last public communication, DJ AM wrote on his Twitter, “New york, new york. Big city of dreams, but everything in new york aint always what it seems.”

Says ex-girlfriend Mandy Moore:

I am absolutely heartbroken. For those of us lucky enough to have known him, Adam radiated a contagious exuberance for life and also personified the very definition of a true friend. To say that he will be missed beyond words is an understatement. My heart goes out to his loved ones.

Blink 182 drummer Travis Barker was more than just a friend to DJ A.M., The two were also musical collaborators and both survived that deadly airplane crash that killed four people last year. On Saturday, Barker opened up for the first time about the loss of A.M.

Travis says:

“Don’t know how i am gonna play 2night but i am for AM. My brother is gone.i love u and miss u, i’ll never forget all the good times we had.

I’ll never forget everything we’ve been thru and every time i play the drums i’ll think of you. U were an amazing friend/DJ/human being.

Rest In Peace my brother, this really fucks me up.
