Damn Anna Wintour for doing this to Jennifer Hudson!! I know the issue is almost two years old, but I wanted to see it again, since she crossed my mind with the new Gap Holiday promotion for 08. You know the one with the red sweater all up in her face!!!!! while the other models look like, well models. I immediately thought of this issue :-( And I agree with the blogger, the first sentence of # 3 and all of # 4. I bet Vogue would never let Angelina or Jennifer Aniston or Meryl take a pic like that let alone use it as a cover. I can just imagine what they were telling her during the shoot, she comes in attempting to give her best modelesque poses that would make Tyra proud :-) and serve good face, and they tell her to act a fool - "be happy"- "show me excitement"- "give me over the top"- "let it all out"- and then the normal shots, the ones worthy of a Vogue cover (and trust me I'm sure they let her take some of those, to give her the illusion that one of them would be picked) the beauty, glamour, normal shots went undeveloped and are still on a camera card somewhere or in the recycing bin near Anna Wintour's desk. I,m ranting I know, but its almost as if they said I dont wanna put this chick on, but she is hot now and she will sell, so we'll put her on our magazine OUR way. DAMN SHAME and Andre Leon Talley couldn't do a damn thing about it.

To hear that Jennifer Hudson was going to be on the cover of Vogue magazine got me very excited. I had never seen an African American woman on the front, or even inside any issue of Vogue I had ever lay eyes on. Jennifer Hudson is my idol. But I was disappointed when I saw this shot. I may rarely even pick up an edition of Vogue but I have seen almost every single shot Jennifer has taken. She is a great model. And this picture made it so obvious that they weren't putting her in front of that camera because she was a gorgeous, Oscar winning actress, who could model so well, but to make a fool of her. Which I believe is really just unbelievable to think someone would do.

That picture is truly unflattering & it is clear that this isn't an ordinary Vogue issue. An issue for beauty, elegance, sophistication, & prestige. But rather the "biggest spring issue ever" & "over the top".

However, I'm not particularly charmed with Jennifer's "talent" or appearance. The ability to carry a tune & pretend to be upset isn't as rare as the common person thinks.

She's just another pop goldmine, & may become a celebrity if she can live up to "Dream Girls". Image, PR, Make-Up, Smoke, & Mirrors.

I know everyone wishes to run & bow to anything vaguely new in this day & age. But America doesn't really need another fat role model (not to say they need another anorexic one).

hell ya.

I've been reading vogue for 20 years and whenever they put a woman of color on it's big news.

not only is jen hudson a great american icon because she was just like the rest of us before discovered on american idol, and besides she's a full figured woman, but she also shoots down the beyoncee diva mentality......beyoncee's never been on vogue!

[...] Lets see, Jennifer has won a Golden Globe, a SAG award, the BAFTA, and is all set to get this year’s Oscar for making Beyoncé sound like a pipsqueak by comparison in Dreamgirls, Jennifer’s first and only movie. Over the years, Beyoncé has been regarded as some sort of a “style icon” and mama Tina Knowles thinks of herself as some kind of fashion designer, but it’s Jennifer who has made it to the cover of Vogue, the first African-American singer to achieve the feat.
